There’s nothing like summer in The Land. We get pumped for warm weather on the North Coast. Like, a wearing shorts and requesting outdoor seating the minute the temperature hits 50 degrees (then insisting that you’re not cold) kind of pumped. And hey, your Great Lakes pals understand completely. The level of excitement that bubbles up at the first hint of patio season is magical. You feel light. You feel free. Wait a minute, is this love?
We want you to get swept up in the pure joy of summer. And because summer magic’s even more magical with your main squeeze, we’re serving up five special Cleveland places to take your crush.
Waterfront Happy Hour, Meet Rock Hall Live
You can improve just about any date night or social gathering by adding A) elevation (hello, rooftop) B) water (hello, riverfront dining) or C) both (anybody got a friend with a rooftop infinity pool?)
One of our favorite things about Cleveland is its proximity to Lake Erie (which is where we source the same water needed to brew your favorite beer). Grab your date or your besties for an early evening walk by the Boat House or Whiskey Island at Edgewater Beach, Settlers Landing in the Flats, or North Coast Harbor. If you choose the latter, you’re just a leisurely romantic stroll away from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, where you can catch live outdoor performances all summer long as part of their Rock Hall Live Series. Best of all, you’ll find a selection of Great Lakes beer there to inspire dancing and bubbly conversation between songs.
Brewpub + Guardians Bridge Walk
There’s something about those bright stadium lights and victory fireworks that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. For your sporty date, a Guardians game makes an exciting and fun night out with plenty of gaps between innings and pitching changes to get to know your crush a little better—like, how do they feel about the shift, for instance?
For extra innings, we recommend a stop at the GLBC brewpub for some pre-game eats. Share some Bavarian Pretzels and a West Side Market Board, then work your appetite back up with a walk over the Hope Memorial Bridge, where you can snap a perfectly picturesque cityscape selfie of the art deco Guardians of Traffic that inspired our hometeam’s name. You’ll find our beer on tap throughout the stadium, so if your crush is seeking some 7th inning refreshment, you can confidently tell them, “I know a place.”
Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center
For a cultured al fresco evening, secure a cozy spot on the lawn, spread a blanket, and treat your crush to the world renowned Cleveland Orchestra under the stars in Cuyahoga Falls’ beloved outdoor venue. From your favorite classical pieces to movie scores and pop songbooks, there’s a show for everyone over their annual 10 week run.
It’s a bit of a trek from the city, so we recommend packing a picnic for sustenance, perhaps with a few Crushworthy Collection cans to bring even more lightness to your idyllic summer evening. Worth noting that when you visit Blossom, you’re also just a few miles away from Hale Farm & Village and our Pint Size Farm, where we source ingredients for our brewpub, and where we also happen to have some more date-worthy plans up our sleeves for the summer…
Go Farm Fresh within City Limits
Speaking of farms, why not celebrate the abundance of the season with a culinary tour? We’re a little biased, but the Ohio City neighborhood is a great place to expand your palate—and we all know the way to your crush’s heart is through their stomach. Okay, that expression is kind of weird, but you get the point.
Wind your way through the historic West Side Market, where you’ll find a wide variety of fresh produce, cheeses, meats, herbs and spices, fish, and prepared foods representing diverse cultures (the West Side Market Café is a fabulous breakfast and lunch spot, and a favorite of the city’s 3rd shifters). Once you’re done sharing bites and people watching, slip away behind the market for an Ohio City Farm tour. Ohio City Farm is operated by the Refugee Response, and provides quality produce for local restaurants like our own over nearly six acres, with a stunning view of downtown Cleveland.
You’ve got your choice of fantastic restaurants in the neighborhood, but best of all is the collection of quality craft breweries that’s grown immensely since we first planted our flag in 1988. Kick off your tour at the GLBC brewpub, then go flight hopping with our neighbors at Market Garden Brewery, Bookhouse Brewing, and Hansa Brewery, all just a short walk from our brewpub and Market Square Park where you can plan your next move on one of the city’s most bustling corners.
Commit to Thrills at Cedar Point
Nothing says commitment like a road trip, so pack up your sunscreen, curate your throwback summer jams playlist, and go half on a tank of gas with your crush to experience the ultimate North Coast day trip to a magical land of thrills, games of chance, and funnel cake.
We love a theme, and we love this theme park even more. The second-oldest operating amusement park in the U.S., Cedar Point continues to delight its visitors with increasingly wild and state-of-the-art coasters, along with its neighboring water park. Not feeling the need for speed? Impress your boo with your ring toss prowess, dance to DJs and live music under the park lights, stroll the boardwalk, or just fill up on good food, beer (hint, hint), and people watching as you take turns waiting for yet another ride on the Scrambler.
Whether you’re just planting seeds for summer love, or looking to mix things up with your forever-crush, Northeast Ohio has a perfect date for every taste, and so does our Crushworthy Collection Variety Pack, available for a limited time to quench your summer *ahem* thirst.
